At the heart of Pilot's KIRE-NA marker is a built-in plastic guide, the Kichinto ("proper" or "neat") Guide, which rests lightly against the paper as you write, keeping each stroke straight and consistent in width. The flexible nylon tip bends gently under pressure, maintaining full contact with the page even along the curved inner edge of a notebook or textbook. The result is a highlighted section that is even in weight with clean edges. 

Ink dries in approximately one second on copy paper and around five seconds on coated stock — fast enough that left-handers and fast note-takers will notice the difference. The formula is designed to sit cleanly over pencil, ballpoint, and gel ink without lifting or smearing, making it a natural companion to fountain pen users and those who annotate in layers.

The double-ended body pairs the guided chisel tip with a fine bullet point at the opposite end — for margin notes, underlining, or adding detail without switching tools.
